UMBERTO DATTOLA

Umberto was born in Brescia on 28 August, 1970.
Being a child with a special talent for drawing and manuall skills, he always knew what he would do as an adult.

In 1989, he took a degree in accountancy. Soon afterwards, he started travelling and learning. Mexico, the United States, Guatemala, India, Nepal and Turkey are the countries that most influenced his artistic growth.
In 1994, he became interested in crafts.
After graduating with honors in Economics at the University of Brescia in 1997, he worked for several companies. Just as he was about to become an export manager for a medium-sized enterprise, he quitted his job and moved to Bovolone, where he attended the Professional School of Art Furniture.  Meanwhile, he also started working for some local carpenters.
After completing his training at Bovolone and Cerea, Umberto moved back to Brescia, where he kept working and learning in two different capentry shops. In the following years, he changed his job deliberately several times, in order to get a broader overview of the different styles and methods of work.

In 2002, he founded “Sensitive to Wood”, a carpentry workshop producing custom design furniture.
Umberto is one of  the founders of Clab4design. He deals with product design and production and with the purchase of raw materials. He also analyzes the other designers’ projects and decides their feasibility.

Do not call him a designer. He likes to quote George Nakashima and say "I'm a woodworker."
